This fall, Readability joined forces with Montgomery County Public Libraries to bring a multi-sensory story time experience to neurodivergent children. From September through October, the Gaithersburg, Rockville, Germantown, Potomac, and Olney libraries hosted storytelling sessions that celebrated autumn, Halloween, funfairs, and other seasonal festivities.
Dozens of neurodivergent children and their families attended the events, and the children loved the stories and sensory props that accompanied them. Volunteers from local chapters across Howard County and high school chapters at Wootton, Winston Churchill, Richard Montgomery, and St. John’s College High School joined the initiative by reading stories and supporting our message to inspire children of all abilities to have a lifelong love for books and storytelling.
The collaboration, having received overwhelmingly positive feedback from families and library staff, is already in talks to continue with a second seasonal partnership. Plans are underway to bring back the story time sessions for a winter-themed program, allowing families to share in the magic of stories coming to life (dates TBD).
